Interactive CD-ROM

The Doris Day Animal League (DDAL) is a nonprofit, national, citizen's lobbying organization formed to focus attention on issues involving the humane treatment of animals.

One of DDAL's major initiatives is protecting wild horses and burros. HorseQuest was a proposed educational CD-ROM that would highlight the plight of wild horses. DDAL tasked Creative Perspectives with producing a rich-media demo CD that would highlight program features and perform as a tool for fundraising.

As a first step, Creative Perspectives organized the HorseQuest material into a series of segments, including the lifecycle and social order of the wild horses, the natural history of the grasslands and foothills in which they roam, and the rich heritage and Native-American lore of the Arrowhead Mountains. Breathtaking video footage and photographs, from award-winning cinematographer Ginger Kathrens, provided exciting imagery for the CD-ROM. Interactive learning tools including fun facts, video, graphics, and interactive games were developed to convey important concepts in each of these areas. The result: an engaging prototype that enlisted members' support and portrayed the DDAL as a vital organization that was creatively engaged in developing new ways to educate people about the need to protect animals.
